Kovalam, a small town 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram, is famous for its beautiful beaches. Its sandy beaches are outlined with lagoons along the palm and rock pigeons. Kovalam is a sheltered bay with its unique and amazing beaches and is endowed with unusual natural beauty. In many places, Arab Beach is outlined with the beautiful patch of Coral Reef. One hour drive from the capital, this is the most famous South Indian beach, which is popular for sunbathing.

It was during the 1930s when a European tourist of potential ‘Travancore’ empire discovered as a tourist destination of the Kovalam beach. But the real fame as the ideal beach resort was later won by the arrival of people of ‘hippie’ for the Kovalam beach in the seventies.

In the seventies, Kovalam became a hippie idol, a fishing village offers fresh fish, fruits and toddy (coconut bears) which revolve around a picture on the tropical beach. Later it developed into a quiet tourist hang out with some basic but comfortable lodges and unstable restaurants. The southernmost coastline, marked by a major red and white striped lighthouse, is known as the Light House Beach, the most popular of all three. It is located with delicious seafood cafés / restaurants, especially shrimp and lobster, bars and sellers sell clothes, crafts, carpets, fruits etc. Next South Light Prakash is the small village of Vizinjam, outside the house. Vizinjam, rarely visited by tourists, is a major center for fishing. There is its beach in it.
