Many of the sharp valleys of Periyar are tropical evergreen forests, which contain large thick trees, which rarely have any sun-ray to enter. These trees are grown entirely on the wonderful heights of 130-140 feet. Some areas of the park include the marshy grasslands near the lake edges and other water bodies. The patch of semi-evergreen forest spread across the park is also used as a vital cover by animal species.
